New study to assess hyperbaric oxygen for treating chronic wounds in diabetes

A new Canadian study is investigating the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of chronic nonhealing wounds (e.g., foot ulcers) in patients with diabetes. These wounds often get infected, leading to reduced quality of life and the need for amputation. Preliminary evidence indicates that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can reduce the need for amputation by 75%.
